Cancer Types and IC50 Nano Silver PPM Kill Concentrations

The silver nano particle was tested for the exact level of anticancer activity against seven types of cancers. “A representative selection of ten cancer cell lines was chosen for the study, including two cervical cancers—SiHa and HeLa (6.15/3.44 PPM respectively)—two blood cancers—HL-60 promyelocytic leukemia (29.4 ppm) and H-9 (H9/HUT-78 derivative) T-cell lymphoma (27.93 ppm)—and one each of ovarian cancer (PA-1)(15.1 ppm), lung cancer (A549 adenocarcinoma)(4.81 ppm), skin cancer (RPMI 7951 melanoma)(no inhabitation at tested levels), colon cancer (Caco2)(0.546 ppm), breast cancer (MCF-7)(11.5 ppm), and brain cancer (C6 glioblastoma) (3.57 ppm).”(

What Is An IC50 Test?

The standard testing that was completed was an IC50 Test. An IC50 test is a measure of the potency of a substance (in this case a nano silver) in inhibiting a specific biological or biochemical function, in this case cancer cell lines. In other words, IC50 is a quantitative measure that indicates how much of this particular nano silver (stated in parts per million or ppm) is needed to inhibit or kill 50% of the cancer cells, in a given amount of time. In this case the time was 24 hours. (8)
